EclecticIQ Intelligence Center Life Cycle Policy#

From version 3.5 onwards, EclecticIQ Intelligence Center’s (EIQ IC) life span for minor releases will be one year or three subsequent releases, whichever comes last.

This means that a release version will receive maintenance releases with security issue mitigations and bug fixes:

  1. For at least one year.

  2. Until at least three subsequent versions have been released.

Once both conditions have been met for a release version, it will be considered End-of-Life (EoL).

This carries over for major releases. That is, if version 2.0 is released following 1.6 , then 2.0 is considered the first subsequent minor release (and 2.1 would be the second version after 1.6).

Example

Consider the following fictious minor releases and their release dates:

  • 1.0 - 1 January 2000

  • 1.1 - 1 May 2000

  • 1.2 - 1 September 2000

  • 1.3 - 1 February 2001

  • 2.0 - 1 April 2001

In this example, version 1.0 reached its EoL on 1 February 2001 with the release of version 1.3, because at that point 1.0 had both been out for a year as well as seen three subsequent releases.

Version 1.1 would reach its EoL on 1 May 2001, a month after the third subsequent release and a year after its own release.

Backdating#

This EoL policy will be incepted with the 3.5 release and will not be effective retroactively. This means that the 3.2, 3.3, and 3.4 versions will not be declared EoL according to the new life cycle described above. Instead, versions 3.2, 3.3, and 3.4 will be declared EoL when version 3.5 is declared EoL.

Versions 3.1, 3.0, 2.14, and all older versions are now considered EoL.

End of Support#

EclecticIQ does not enforce a strict, formal End Of Support (EOS). Users on any versions can open support tickets and request assistance. However, offering technical solutions for versions that have had their EoL declared may be more difficult because they have not received bug fixes or quality of life improvements of later releases.

When seeking support for versions that have passed their EoL, expect solutions to be more difficult to find. If you raise an issue that requires a bug fix to be implemented, it will only be considered for versions not currently EoL.

Practical implications#

Upgrading to each new minor version as it is released of course represent the optimal value for your license and means you will maximally profit from our development efforts.

If you are unable to upgrade ad hoc for each release, then defining at least two upgrade windows per year should ensure you are always on a release that is live and receiving security mitigations and bug fixes.
